2021 Online Midwest Harp Festival Offerings

Sight-Reading Challenge

July 18th – 23rd
All Ages
On Sunday evening, our Zoom Ice Breaker provides a chance to meet the faculty and other harpists. Weekday mornings will start off with everyone together for a daily warm-up led by Janelle. Then harpists will split into their small groups (beginner, intermediate, or advanced) to work on their sight-reading piece, which they will receive on Monday. Small groups will each get a chance to work with Charles, Elizabeth, and Faye during the week. In the afternoons, the groups will come together for a workshop or masterclass. On Friday morning, there will be a Q&A session with the faculty and anyone who wants to may perform their sight-reading piece or anything else they have prepared. Friday afternoon includes a Zoom Viewing Party of the Faculty Concert.
Our goal for the week is to provide a safe and friendly space for you to grow as a harpist. We want you to challenge yourself to see how much of your new piece you can learn in 5 days, and we want to help you succeed with the proper technique and practice suggestions.
Cost: $400

Meet the Harp

July 18th – 23rd

Harp pick up/drop off near Halsted and Archer streets in Chicago, IL is required along with a $150 deposit. Your deposit will be refunded upon return of the harp. Not in the Chicagoland area? Email Janelle Lake regarding harp rental near you:
Due to the expensive nature of the instrument, we strongly encourage parental supervision through virtual classes until the family feels comfortable.
Students have the opportunity to perform on the last day. Resources for continuing harp education throughout Illinois will be handed out.

*There is a minimum number of students required to run this class. If the minimum is not met, class will be cancelled and the registration fee refunded. Space is limited based on harp availability.
