Lou Hurst

Chief Harp Schlepper and Staging Tech

Lou first began taking an interest in the harp world nearly 15 years ago as a parent when his son Zach started taking lessons. As Zach continued to progress through his own harp career, he and Lou began attending the Midwest Harp Festival. For the first couple of years, Lou attended primarily as a parent but has since become the head harp hauler. He additionally helps with tech needs, staging logistics, and helping Jaina behind the scenes with keeping the festival enjoyable for all who attend. As Zach grew older, he went on to pursue his college degree while maintaining his love for playing the harp on the side. Zach’s harp teacher, Heidi, no longer had Zach as a student which in turn sparked the idea within Lou that she should continue to have a Hurst guy under her instruction. Already knowing a lot of the mechanics of the harp, he began taking lessons from Heidi to learn how to play himself. He hopes to continue developing his own talent and enjoys spending time each year at the Midwest Harp Festival.

During the 2017 Festival, Lou became the proud grandpa for the very first time of a beautiful baby girl, Kathryn Henry.  He’s not saying much about it, but one can surely interpret that grandfatherly grin…
