 Maximum 10 Pedal Harp Students

Led by Elizabeth Richter, an outstanding instructor and mentor of harp students, this program is designed for upper-intermediate and advanced high school and college level students who plan to study or are currently studying harp in college, and are aiming for a career in solo or orchestral performing.  Each student will:

• Receive two lessons in a master class setting
• Will participate in a mock orchestral audition and perform as a soloist. 
• Perform their favorite solo on the public Saturday, July 27 Solo and Ensemble Concert

Additional sessions will be given in harp literature, practice techniques, stage presence, and audition preparation. This program will be held each morning in lieu of ensemble group rehearsal.

Music to be used for this program is the responsibility of the student to purchase and learn on their own BEFORE the festival.  Each student’s teacher should assist in this but we are available for guidance if necessary. 

Assignment to be prepared for each student registering

2 memorized solos of contrasting nature and contrasting periods (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionist, Contemporary)

Students entering the Festival Solo Competition may use the competition piece as one of their memorized solos but will not receive coaching on it until after the competition

1. Mignon Overture - Ambroise Thomas (Famous Harp Cadenzas edited by Carlos Salzedo, available from Lyra)

2. Pines of Rome - my copy does not have individual measure numbers, just big rehearsal numbers.  This is what I suggest for the first movement:

     Mvt. 1  Beginning through 8 measures after Reh. 4

     Mvt. 2  All 

     Mvt. 3  All
